Mike McNamara
Partner
Mike McNamara is the US Managing Partner of SNR Denton. He also
chairs the firm’s US Public Policy and Regulation practice and
leads the worldwide Government sector team.
Mike uses his two decades of experience in Washington, DC, and
extensive knowledge of the institutions of government to direct one
of the top 10 US public policy practices, as recognized by the
National Journal, and which Chambers USA has
designated as one of the Firm's leading practices. He provides
clients comprehensive strategic counsel in all aspects of public
policy and regulatory affairs, particularly for clients in
regulated industries where significant policy considerations must
be informed by political sensitivities. This includes political
risk management and compliance and corporate social responsibility
matters.
Mike brings a dynamic understanding of the intersection of
business, law, innovation and regulation. He advises multinational
clients—corporations, investor groups, high wealth individuals—with
strategic planning and major regulatory efforts spanning the United
States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and regularly
counsels clients on the implications that domestic US policy may
have on international affairs.
His significant client successes have involved daily work with
diverse leaders in the financial services, health care, energy,
insurance, consumer products, defense and homeland security,
education, entertainment, manufacturing, technology, media and
communications, and transportation sectors, among others.
An integral part of his practice, Mike provides board-level
business counsel to help clients plan and manage complex deals
through the marketplace. He has been involved in the structuring
and negotiation of transactions valued in excess of US$80 billion,
including Fortune 500 mergers and acquisitions.
Mike has been deeply engaged in corporate crisis management,
advising clients facing major events or disruptions to shape not
only their legal and political but also their communications and
stakeholder strategy. This includes US government investigations,
Congressional or administrative agency inquiries, international
sanctions, judicial proceedings and other "front page" matters
critical to corporate business planning and execution.
A frequent speaker and a respected authority on public policy
and government issues, Mike often contributes commentary on
government and policy trends. In his community service, he has been
active in numerous nonprofit organizations and pro bono efforts,
including as a director, general counsel and special counsel.
Mike is a graduate of Harvard Law School and previously served
as an economist with the US Department of Commerce.
He is a member of the firm's Global Advisory Committee, US
Policy & Planning Board and Asia Pacific Management
Committee.
